<itunes:subtitle>Eclectic mix of authentic music and a slightly twisted view</itunes:subtitle>
<itunes:summary>Dreadful Snake Guy travels widely and knows a lot about music and life. Authentic music is real stuff with no added lipstick. Vegas is out; blues, singer/songwriter, real rock is in. 1000 studio overdubs is out. Live is in. No stolen music here but the occasional educational treatise on things you know and things you don't. Homegrown podcasting at its most enthusiastic. Philosphy, fun and a good party.

Sharing a few recent adventures with you. Intro by great guitarist Sam Hooper that I recorded here in Shanghai at the House of Blues and Jazz. More Sam next show. Chinese New Year was a local warzone . . . I took the photo at right next to my buildingâ.want to know what it sounded like when the entire neighborhood throws up their arsenals at once? This podcast has it. Next, went to Goa and stayed with an old pal with a house on the Arabian Sea. Yup, it was that nice. See Dreadful Snake Blog for Goa pictures and more. Want to hear me play slide guitar? It was a bit late in many respects, but there it is. Percussion by Sissi Perlinger, a German stand-up comic.

Wonât be long til the next show! Much more Sam Hooper Group. In the meantime, please drop a vote for DSR at Podcast Alley: Vote Here and THANKS for listening.
Dreadful Snake Masterpiece in Rome

In the cobblestone streets of Trastevere in ancient Rome, one song keeps going through my head: Dylanâs âWhen I Paint My Masterpiece.â With my iPod blasting this one in my ears, I wandered the narrow alleys between piazzas and bars, between ancient cathedrals and art galleries. What a place to let your mind take a walk . . . what a place to consider who you are and could have been . . . .

A brief on-the-road Dreadful Snake Radio. I will update this post soon with how to buy this music and more pics on the DSBlog . . . Please drop a vote for DSR at Podcast Alley: Vote Here Being high on the list means more folks will wander in and listen.
A Shanghai Christmas Story

There is Amazing Grace in a Christmas in Shanghai after all! Dreadful Snake Guy goes to a local church on Christmas Eve and although everything is done in Chinese, the messages come through loud and clear. Parables and metaphors and Big Brother in the back watching it all. All audio recorded live tonight at the Mu En Church on Xi Zang Zhong Road (see picture posted at right) . . . except for that Amazing Grace version in the back of some of my ramblings ...that was the Blind Boys of Alabama .
They are Messin with the Snake on iTunes

So I was so psyched that Dreadful Snake Radio finally got listed in iTunes directory. Then I just got an email from RJ. He sent this iTunes news to many friends (an admirable action, dear Snakesters, and one you ALL should emulate by the by) but it seems the friends couldn't find me . . . that I had DISAPPEARED from the directory no matter how they searched for me. I tried it a moment ago - and it is true.. . for the moment. ARGGH.
So anyway, I found the following thread at my most excellent pod-hosting service LIBSYN ($5 a month gang - you too can be a famous whatever). iTunes Search Problem Forum Thread
And it seems the consensus is it is Apple's problem and so I am gonna do what I do best. Sit and wait til it fixes itself. . . . hopefully in a day or 2.
Please do check the Dreadful Snake Blog for some show ideas and other ramblings and pictures from China and elsewhere.

Surprised by the Women

Ever get delightfully surprised by the music? First I intro the topic over the always surprising bass playing of Victor Wooten
(BP from the Flektones). Who is Gillian Welch? An explanation and an example of her most excellent standard stuff , then the surprise . . . I caught her live in Colorado playing a psychedelic anthem from the 60s. For the first time. And she and David Rawlings kicked its butt considering it is just 2 acoustic guitars and voice. Next act: Sometimes a surprise is how an incredible commitment to style by a singer transforms a song you thought you knew. Witness what Mary McCaslin
does to a Motown top 40 tune. Hey . . . I am already at the 17 minute mark . . . Lets wrap this show! Please buy the full commercial versions of the music you hear on this little educational effort of mine.

Skip James and Clapton: Iâm So Glad (to be a Snake!)

I'm So Glad! that I am finally listed in the iTunes podcast directory. The Dreadful Snake Guy slithers into the mainstream! Reflections on Phil Lesh's thoughtful new book and bass playing. 1968 live recording of Cream playing I'm So Glad with a corny classical segue a la Rodney Dangerfield. 1931 recording of Skip James playing the original and DSGuy tells you why Clapton redid this song. . . Yes it was for the money ÃïÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃïÃÂ. But not for him, it was for Skip. That is a picture of Skip on the right and yes ... Robert Johnson used to listen to HIM!

Use iTunes to subscribe to Dreadful Snake Radio for free.
So put the Dreadful Snake Guy in Shanghai, China, put him on a bicycle in heavy traffic, and see what happens, once he is miked up with high-end stereo lav mikes, of course. Take a ride through the streets of Shanghai, near death experiences, and finally, the "Makes You Slobber" restaurant. Then a touch of the amazing machines of the Formula 1 Grand Prix at Shanghai Circuit, the world's best F1 track. Talk about a contrast.
Snake Update

Here's a bloggy kind of update . . . Dreadful Snake Guy can be heard briefly on a couple of other podcasts this week. First, on airline pilot Joe d'Eon's Fly With Me Episode 5 podcast. This was fun - I like Joe's podcast cause I fly so much for the old day job, but also because it is really well produced. I am sure the poor devil spends 10 hours in the studio editing for each 20-30 minutes you hear (cause I am nearly as silly about editing). Anyway, he asked me to create a song for a retiring friend, so I did. Ain't no masterpiece - took 15 minutes - but was fun. I set up a single AKG-D1000E mike thru a mixer into Audacity in the laptop and played rythym on the old Guild acoustic and sang into one track, then I added a lead guitar with the Guild and then a second lead with my prize - a 1929 National steel guitar (that's the slide stuff). Anyway there it is - check it (and Joe's podcast) out!

Next - and this is brief but what the hey - this week's Roadhouse 17 - I called Tony and left him a Skypey message about how he manages to find such realllllly good blues in Garageband. So he played that and answered (short answer - he works hard at it),

Thanks to everyone for listening and supporting - I passed the 10,000 download mark last week. Yowsa!! And I really do want to hear from you - call, email, mp3 me - whatever!! Off to Telluride Thursday!!!!! Meet me there in the Town Park campground.

My Head is Spinning. Glad he liked the DS Drama Club's visit to Curry Plantation and such. I feel like the local PennySaver writer that got picked up by the New York Times. My downloads doubled today in the morning.

Great exposure for the 'cast so here's hoping some of you new folk wander around with us a bit and listen to some more of these shows. No charge. Unless this movement becomes an industry.
