So put the Dreadful Snake Guy in Shanghai, China, put him on a bicycle in heavy traffic, and see what happens, once he is miked up with high-end stereo lav mikes, of course. Take a ride through the streets of Shanghai, near death experiences, and finally, the "Makes You Slobber" restaurant. Then a touch of the amazing machines of the Formula 1 Grand Prix at Shanghai Circuit, the world's best F1 track. Talk about a contrast. Yowsa!

DSGuy finally plugs in the old reliable studio half way thru this podcast. . . . my mixer only works on 110 volts so took a while for me to find adapters and stuff. Please see the Dreadful Snake Blog for more photos. Thanks so much for listening.

I see new listeners coming in from Brasil to Australia . . . drop me an EMail

or a comment on the site. Love you all. Xiexie from Peoples Republic of China.

eeeks, Shanghai doesn't sound like a very bicycle-friendly city to me!
:D hehehee, i'd sure like to get a look at the restauranteur's translation dictionary... must be all kinds of great ideas for slogans in that book!

Well, in a sense I guess it's not! But there are so many bikes, they can't run us all over! Went for my first real long ride yesterday - almost 5 hours. Took the bike on a ferry across the Huangpu River, rode to the north part of the city near Fudan Univ. Stopped for lunch (dumplings and "crunchy vegetables wrapped in beef")and stopped at Lu Xun Park to walk around a little. http://www.cnn.com/SPECIALS/1999/china.50/dispatches/09.29.lu.xun.park/
    A great Saturday adventure.

does Shanghai have special lanes for bicycle traffic as does The Netherlands, another country where bicycles outnumber motorized vehicles? heheee, judging from the sound of it, i'd say not, so beware of the attitude that in numbers there is strength when it comes to playing dodge-the-motorized-traffic, Mr. DSGuy!! :) ~ your more relaxed ride near the University and the walk in the park sounds delightful, though. nice blog you point us to with the link. ~ and, mmmmmm, your lunch sounds absolutely delicious! ~ take good care and continue to update us when you can :)

    DSG!

great to hear you're back online. I was just thinking the other day that it's been a while since we heard one of your reportages. And then I checked today (don't always get a chance to check my rss feeds unfortunately), and there you were. Cool!

Liked the bike one as I commute by train and then bike. Ok, Aberdeen is no where near as busy as Shanghai, but do know the hassles and dangers of traffic. Didn't like all the horns you got there. That would be too distracting. Still, it's better than the bus and you get exercise too. Anyways, take care with that bike and keep us in the loop. We're thinking of you.

Why thanks to Bruce and all the supportive messages that come my way. It really feels good to know that y'all (I did live in TX briefly) send them good wishes my way. Dinner tonight was awesome - wish I knew the name of the chicken dish -it is officlaly my favorite now. Picture a bunch of small pieces of chicken fried really well but served on a platter absolutely smothered in those big red dried chiles. Some peanuts thrown in. And there are these little peppers that look like spiked versions of peppercorns that are slightly hot , taste a little like licorice or anise, but make your tongue numb. No kidding - too weird. NEVER saw that in the US of A.....Yowsa! SO good. Another Tsing Tao pls! (pi jiu!!)
