DSG! Dude, it's great to hear your 'dulcet';-) tones on the airwaves again. I was just wondering if I was going to have to give you up as MIA from my aggregator, so it's wonderful to see you back in action. Good luck in the PRC.

We get a number of students from there every year and they're all fairly hip with their techno stuff, so I'm sure you'll have a good time podcasting and maybe find some new mikes and mixers, etc. Have fun and keep us all posted.

So Guy, do the folks in China find it strange to see an American walking around with a microphone?

I still haven't bought a bike yet - the taxi's are pretty cheap - but I think a death-defying bike ride among the rather creative Shanghai drivers is a show to look forward to. I'll mike myself for that one for sure!! Watch out for that TAXI!!! Oh - and the power is all 220/50hz here so can't use my mixer - hence the wacky sound quality last time. Will solve it somehow.

    hey man,
I was sent to Beijing a few years ago to do some Linux installs on IBM hardware. I loved it. China was great, we spent about 4 days in Beijing and 4 days in Hong Kong. I had hoped to go to Shanghai after that, but the trip was called short.
I always tell the wife that if I ever have the chance we are packing up and moving there in a hearbeat.
So, if you need a good linux admin .. keep me in mind. :)
Don't be afraid to try the local food, I became a big fan of duck after that trip. They roast it there and its great.

Ok Linux Dave - you are the official Dreadful Penguin Guy. Too bad you didnt make Shanghai - pull out half the trees in Beijing, triple the height of the buildings and turn the volume up on everything - from partying to spitting - and you kinda get the idea. The duck is the best there - right down to the tongue (yum!)

woo! Dreadful Penguin .. thats got a nice ring to it.

I tried the tongue, it was like liver .. then for lunch they offered fried chicken feet. I told them i was from the south. I don't eat pickled Pigs feet here, I'm not gonna eat fried chicken feet there. My contact there thought it was mighty funny.

    Nihao DSG and all!

China is where the action is guys!

Shanghai is one rocking, non-stop urban Amazon.

Got your link DSG from your link re looking for advice in buying a budget voice-recording machine with good quality but won't break the bank.

    any advice from all appreciato

If you guys wanna learn Chinese fast and I mean...

    Start Speaking Chinese
    in 58 Minutes Flat
    Blindfolded
With Your Arms Behind Your Back
    Over the Phone
The Other Side of the Country

(you dont Have to of course - I'll be happy to help)

Before I go DSG, here's a quick Chinese lesson for you. You can use it
the next time you eat Chinese or when you meet up with your Chinese friends
    or acquaintances.

DSG, who do you hold very closely to your heart? [say their name out loud]

Now imagine them standing right in front of you. And he/she takes something out
from behind their back, something so precious and dear to them, and stretches
out their arms, cradling it in their 2 cupped hands...and shares it with you.

What would you say when they share this precious gift with you? [say it out loud]

Usually we would say "Thanks" right?

So to say "Thanks" (for share sharing), it is "Share Share"

    Tip:
When you say "Share Share" (ie 'Thanks' in Chinese),
Stretch your mouth wide like a grin, When you say it.

    so DSG, "Share Share"

    To your continuing China Adventures
    with metta (compassion)

Wow - that is the best take on "xie xie" I have heard for sure! My latest mandarin acquisition is to say to the local noodle shop (who seem to recognize me but hey I am the only 6'3" white guy who ambles in past the guy on the sidewalk shaving the old men's heads with a straight razor)- anyway, I can now say "Give me some some handmade noodles with beef, to go." They laugh at me but they get it - as do I, all for 4 RMB (50 cents). Yowsa!
